Chapter Eleven
Ella
Morning brought with it a whole new set of challenges. Uncle Tony came by with breakfast, none of which I ate. I donât trust that he didnât drug it. It smelled good, though, considering I havenât eaten since lunch yesterday. My stomach complained the whole time, but I am not my stomach. I can soldier through.
When Uncle Tony determined I wasnât going to eat no matter how many times he even tasted my food to show me it was safe, he sighed and moved on. A nurse came in to take my blood. I was told that if I put up a fuss, theyâd just strap me down. Theyâd rather not have to hurt me.
Little good that did. My veins move, and if you donât know how to deal with them, you end up bruising me worse than necessary. The nurse who took my blood didnât care when I told her she needed to use a butterfly needle or sheâd cause bruises. She literally shoved a needle in and moved it around several times in both arms with no luck. Another nurse had to come in and do it. Currently, Iâm sitting on the bed with ice packs on both arms because they hurt so much, I can barely move them.
Youâd think the military would have better trained personnel, but maybe they just donât care when it comes to supernatural creatures. Their aim is to study and learn, not to make it comfortable for them.
I do know one thing, though. If I get out of here, and Dad doesnât leave his job, he and I are done. Iâm out of the house as soon as I turn eighteen. Iâll go stay with Gramps and Eli. I donât care how that looks to anyone else. If Dad still thinks what heâs doing is a good thing after they took me, then thatâs on him. Iâll cut him out of my life no matter how much it might hurt in the long run.
Thereâs a knock on my door, and the lock disengages before it opens to reveal Tony and Dadâs boss, General Sylvia Griggs. Sheâs older than my dad, but she looks at least ten to fifteen years younger. Sure, her dark hair could be dyed, but I donât think so. Sheâs using some kind of magic to stay young. Can I taste magic like others can? Nope, but doesnât mean I canât make an educated guess.
âElla, dear, I hope you slept well.â
âConsidering I was hit over the head and kidnapped, Iâm going to say no.â
âHas a doctor checked your head wound?â
âNope. All anyone has done is ignore me when I tell them my veins move, and now I canât move my arms.â I let the ice packs fall so they can see the mess of bruises up and down my arms. âReal professional.â
General Griggs tsks like sheâs upset. I know better. Iâm here because of her.
âI do apologize. We want to run some tests later this morning, so Iâll have a CT done of your head and make sure thereâs no lasting damage.
